Fashion trends were a flurry at Windsor Castle, guests wore an array of styles from trendy to traditional, topped off with stylish headgear and accessories. Wedding guest style can be a tricky one to nail, so take a leaf from these guests who had the added pressure of the world watching. We’ve chosen the reigning trends from the weekend, and will show you how to emulate the look for less.

Being a part of someone’s big day is a special occasion, you want to look your best – elegant and on trend, make an impact and ensure you look great on those memory making photographs. The main thing is feeling comfortable, which is why we’ve chosen the best petite pieces specifically fitted to flatter your figure, without compromising on style.

This season’s It colour

There’s little doubt that yellow is the colour of the season and Saturday saw Amal Clooney work the bold hue perfectly. There’s a shade of yellow for every petite’s skin tone so don’t be put off by the first shade you try.

Consider these two printed dresses from Relax Baby Be Cool are your ticket to the hottest colour of the moment. Make like Amal and pair a dress with matching coloured shoes and a fascinator; wearing a colour head to toe draws the eye upward and adds length to the body.

In our opinion Amal stole the show as the best dressed guest and in one of our chosen pieces, you can too.

Something (Pastel) Blue

If dresses aren’t your thing, channel the Countess of Wessex in an on trend two piece. Pale blue was a hit amongst guests at the royal nuptials, as well as on the catwalks of the S/S 18 shows. Lara Hughes-Young was another attendee that dazzled in blue, we adore the flattering shape of her 1940s style dress. Get the look for less with this chic day to night number by petite label Nancy Mac – the floaty silhouette flatters all figures, as does the elongating v- neckline. Just add a coordinating fascinator and heels and you’re wedding ready.

Nude Hues

Oprah, Serena and Julia’s nude outfits oozed glamour and sophistication at the royal affair, with an easy air of understated elegance. Whilst white is a no go for a wedding (leave that to the bride, please) nude is a light and summery alternative. Everything goes; from beige to pink or peachy tones – with a style to suit every petite body shape. Why not take a leaf out of these ladies books and flaunt your curves in a figure hugging dress? All three opted for long sleeved styles, this is an elegant move if you’re showing some leg and going bodycon. All three stylish women kept their accessories neutral, like in Amal’s outfit, wearing a block of colour head to toe (with some extra height from a hat or fascinator thrown in for good measure) the body is elongated and slimmed. If you want to jazz up your accessories– metallics work wonderfully with nude tones. There are an abundance of dress styles that are perfect for a petite frame in are shop right now – Bo Carter’s stunning shift dress has a romantic feel with its bow detailing, as does the pretty lace of our Kristen dress. Both are perfect examples of guest attire done right.

Pretty in Print

Polka dots, stripe, bold, floral or abstract – prints are in and aren’t going ‘out’ anytime soon. Whilst vertical stripes are brilliant at elongating the frame, there’s a print to suit every petite woman. Patterns and prints are brilliant at flattering the figure, they flow the viewer’s eye over the print as a whole – brilliantly camouflaging any disliked areas such as the midriff or hips.

Soft, romantic florals like our picks from Eliza J’s petite line are popular for wedding guest dressing – the floaty and whimsical prints are perfect for a day that celebrates love. Bomb Petite’s printed dresses are flattering to all frames, the 40s style, v -neckline and midi length makes them a perfect choice. The prints will transcend through season’s, meaning you can wear these dresses long after the occasion. If you opt for a printed style, let it be the statement of this outfit – keep shoes, handbags and headwear minimal and in a neutral tone. We adore this nude disc hat, which wouldn’t have looked out of place on Saturday despite the huge saving on the price!

Burgundy is beautiful

A guest that has been cited as one of the ‘best dressed guests’ of the Royal Wedding was Jacinda Barrett wearing a midi length oxblood dress from designer Emilia Wickstead. Darker colours are flattering and slimming, and we can’t get enough of this stunning wine shade. Stylish sleeves were trending with wedding guests – whether full length or half-length like Jacinda’s . Many women’s upper arms are their least favourite area, so consider this style flattering and of the moment. The keyhole in the neckline of Jacinda’s dress shows just enough skin, and adds a chic detail, lookout for small cut outs like this that can make a big impact. As we saw many times at the wedding, guests accessories perfectly matched outfits in colour (the height of chic) and meant the looks didn’t stray into OTT territory.

Dark doesn’t mean dull

There are no rules that state you can’t wear black to a wedding, but if we’re taking our cues from Saturday’s guests, no one wore black to Harry and Meghan’s nuptials. If you’re a fan of darker hues, but are a guest for a summer wedding we think navy is a perfect alternative. Victoria Beckham, Sarah Rafferty and Chelsy Davy all agreed, opting for the sophisticated dark blue for the big event. Each outfit had a certain flair to it – Victoria’s slit sleeves and buckle fastening, Sarah’s dramatic sleeves and Chelsy’s cape-like jacket. This could be something to emulate, petites – to take your outfit to the next level. Any one of our navy petite dresses would be royal wedding worthy, just add navy sandals and don’t forget the all-important fascinator to finish off the look. If dresses just aren’t your style, a chic jumpsuit is a great alternative, our v-neck style is super flattering and you’ll wear it many times over.
