Clothing for petite women is cut with height proportions in mind. However, there’s so much more to consider than height when you’re five feet four and below, as not all petite women are necessarily short and slim. It’s likely that many petite women are still struggling to find the perfect fitting clothes for their body shape.
There are three main body types, which are the endomorph, ectomorph, and mesomorph.
If you have no idea what your body type is and how to style yourself, follow these tips below on how to dress for your body type!
Endomorphs have soft, rounded bodies and are curvier around the stomach, hips, and thighs. Famous celebrities with this body type include Marilyn Monroe and Christina Hendricks, while a prime example of a petite celeb with an endomorph body type is Kim Kardashian.
Highlight your upper body by wearing prints or vivid colours and opt for dark coloured bottoms. High waisted jeans and trousers are also well suited to your body type, and A-line skirts will skim over your curves and give you a more balanced look. Or if you like to highlight your assets, do as the Kardashians do and go for body-con dresses, but make sure that the fabric is thick and supportive.
Ectomorphs tend to be lanky and lithe, with narrow hips and long limbs. Petite celebrities with this body type include Natalie Portman, Ariana Grande, and Nicole Richie.
Petite women with an ectomorph body type will look great wearing almost any top, but if you want to add curves, consider wearing longer and looser styles, such as a tunic blouse. Halter tops will also look great on you, as well as anything that exposes your shoulders and back. Highlight your slim frame by wearing slim cut trousers and jeans. For a go-to dress, consider having the classic wrap dress in your closet to wear for date night or any other occasion.
Mesomorphs have muscular bodies and can bulk up fast if they work out too much. Famous petite stars with this body type include singer Pink and actress Jada Pinkett Smith.
To soften your look, opt for curvy shapes such as a rounded neckline, a skirt with asymmetric pleats, and rounded toes on your shoes. If you want to flaunt your body type, do what Pink does and show off your arms in sleeveless styles. You can also take a cue from Michelle Obama, who drapes her body in beautifully structured yet feminine clothing that highlights her strong frame. Mesomorphs can definitely wear structured dresses, but if you’re petite, make sure that your dress hem falls above the knee.
Of course, these are just suggestions on what to wear for your body type, but you can wear whatever makes you feel good and look good. We all aspire to have the perfect body, but living a healthy and balanced lifestyle is also important. Experiment with your look and embrace your body type, as a confident woman looks attractive, no matter what she wears.
