Are you ready for the new season? We certainly are. We can’t wait to banish our black tights to the back of our wardrobe and step into spring! Fresh cuts, exciting retro looks, and eye-popping colours have taken our fancy. Many pieces can be worked into your style now for a transitional, updated look while chilly weather lingers. Here’s a rundown of our favourite trends for petite frames:
1. Waist defining styles
Seen at: Dolce & Gabbana, Celine, Balenciaga
The waist became the body part of the moment a few seasons ago when crop tops were rife and midriffs were bared. This spring, the trend takes on a grown up twist with torsos accentuated subtly. Think high-waisted skirts and trousers, ruched waistbands and belts. Perfect for elongating the silhouette.
2. Denim
Seen at: Chloé, Kenzo, Michael Kors
Denim never really goes out of style. It’s always there, in some form or other – simple, under-stated a background staple. But this season denim makes its presence known. Think double denim, denim jumpsuits, denim dresses. You name it, this material has seized it.
3. 70’s
Seen at: Etro, Saint Laurent, Gucci
The era of groupies and formica tables has been reimagined on the spring catwalks. Sashay in style with flares, midi skirts, snakeskin boots and suede. Lots and lots of suede.
4. Shirt dresses
Seen at: Chloé, Altuzarra, Vivienne Westwood
Simple, effortless and classic. The shirt dress, if well fitting, can be one of the most versatile pieces in your wardrobe. It’s an instant outfit.
5. Yellow
Seen at: 3.1 Phillip Lim, A Détacher, Carolina Herrera
Does this colour strike fear in to your heart? It’s bright yes, but you don’t have to go all out canary. Why not just nod to the trend with a hint of the sunshine hue. Try to pick a tone that’s right for your complexion – darker skin can get away with not so mellow yellows. Nothing says summer quite like it.
