It’s about finding clever clothes that do more than simply flatter; the right clothes empower.
British Vogue looks at how to dress different female shapes in a feature by Sarah Harris and Harriet Walker for its November issue. Prominent women are selected to be the focus of each section, which looks in turn at various shapes from tall to apple to pear and the relating body hang-ups.
Furniture designer, Martha Freud heads up the ‘Body Shape: Buxom’ piece and sheds some light on the choices she makes for her petite frame and ample bosom. She describes herself as being ‘an assortment of shapes: very short, but also very curvy’, opting for classic 5o’s shapes to accentuate her small waist and support her cleavage.
Interestingly, Martha articulates a point so often experienced by petites ‘I hate patronisingly girly clothes. Instead I like to feel womanly. She achieves this by wearing pencil skirts or empire lines, and putting her faith in designers that do curvy well – Vivienne Westwood and Rick Owens’.
